Charleston has been praised as a top bicycle city, yet has very few bicycle lanes and no protected lanes. The Design Division of Charleston and Charleston Moves want to change this. SEVEN was lucky enough to be asked to develop an identity for a bicycle research program to help the Design Division of Charleston to gather data for their urban planning. Considering SEVEN is a huge bike advocate, this project was put on the top of the list.
The identity was influenced by the clean and direct messaging repeated in political campaigns. The color palette invokes Old Glory, our beloved national flag but with a slightly softer approach. The overall feel for this identity is open, inviting and patriotic. Riding a bike is now more American than apple pie and baseball.
The bike tags were a huge success in collecting bike route data. We blew our 1,000 routes goal out of the water! This project was all about community buy in. The charleston community definitely bought in.
